Previous Minister
Rev Dr Graham Houston was born and brought up in Glasgow and trained in architecture before studying theology at Aberdeen and entering the Church of Scotland ministry. Before coming to South Lanarkshire, he served churches in Edinburgh, Sutherland and Perth, and also worked as a full-time university chaplain and part-time lecturer, during which time he completed his PhD on connections between information technology and Christian ethics.. Since 2001 he has been minister of Cairngryffe linked with Symington in the Presbytery of Lanark. Graham is married to Irene, an inclusion support teacher, and they have three grown-up children, Rachel, an occupational therapist, Rhoda, a homemaker with baby son Noah Daniel married to Andy, full-time elder at Hebron Evangelical Church, Carlisle and Stephen, a student. The family is completed by Hamish, the yellow labrador. Graham loves classical and folk/blues music, plays golf, and is an avid reader. He is also an author who has a number of published articles and two books to his name: Prophecy Now (1989, also published in North America and translated into Finnish), and Virtual Morality (1998). Graham was Moderator of Lanark Presbytery during 2006-07.
